Day 4 was cut a bit short, “called on the count of rain” in the early afternoon. However, the morning was fantastic, with excellent light for photos. We left camp in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and headed West into California. We saw some spectacular scenery and an ancient footprint in stone, before moving on and taking some refuge from the rain in the Wiley’s Well campground, which had covered tables that came in extremely handy for both cooking and eating. Dinner was Polish-themed, with klopskis (kind of a meatball), green beans and mashed potatoes, with an utterly fantastic trail-baked Polish apple cake for dessert.
