Trails can be rated in a number of ways. Some use a scale of 1-10, others use 1-5, and some use a system similar to the skiing industry with green circles, blue squares and black diamonds. This is our system: color coded 1-10 scale with 1 being the easiest and 10 being extreme. Ratings are baselined with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (4dr) Rubicon
Dirt Road and 2 Track Trails. Less than 9″ water crossing depth. Grades up to 15 degrees and mild side hill up to 15 degrees. Stock 4WD under all conditions except snow and/or mud conditions. No width problems, passing spots frequently available if less than two vehicles wide.
Rutted and/or rocky trail. Rocks and water crossings up to 12″ with possible currents. Moderate grades and side hill to 20 degrees. Narrow shelf roads with no width problems. Loose sand may be encountered.
Jeep Specific Trails and Challenge Routes. Rocks frequent and large may exceed bumper height, ledges to 30”. Grades and side hill to 30 degrees. Water crossings to 30″ and may have strong currents. Very narrow shelf roads. May encounter steep sand hills or dunes. Body damage, mechanical breakdown and rollover possible.
Extreme Challenge Routes. Severe rock, ledges and waterfalls. Over 30″ water crossings with vehicle moving currents. Grades and side hills over 30 degrees. Winching required. Body damage, mechanical breakdown, rollover are probable. Extreme caution required personal injury possible.
